I would like to take this opportunity to say I hope all of you had a safe path through the trials and tribulations of Hurricane Irma. This was a very trying time for both parents and students. Please keep in mind that your children could be very traumatized by this event.
As far as the monthly events in the classroom, we completed our first project, “All About Me.” The students completed a pictorial of their lives. This assignment enabled them to present in chronological order, their lives. It was interesting to see what they saw as important events in their lives. They were also given the opportunity to present their projects to the class. We will have assignments like this twice a month. I want them to be comfortable speaking in front of the class and doing research on a variety of subjects. Our next assignment will be research on jobs that they may want to do after completing their education.
Math class has been a great review month. We have covered all modes of operation, fractions, decimals, and word problems. Word problems continue to be difficult. We will spend time developing the skills necessary to solve the problems. The development of the proper vocabulary will go hand in hand with their progress.
In our science class, we are studying the solar system and the planets. We will also discuss how the NASA programs were responsible for many technological advances. I want them to see how lives have changed with these developments.
We are also changing classes several times throughout the week. This gives the students time with another teacher and a learning environment much like the public school systems.
As always, if you need or would like additional information, please contact me at the school.
Mr. John Muscaro
